Classroom Rules, Procedures, and Expectations
Mr. Leach’s 8th Grade Science Class
Classroom Goals
The goal of this class is to further your knowledge of the nature of the world so you are able to use this knowledge to become a life-long learner and responsible global citizen. You must work hard independently, but will also have to work effectively with other students and me, just like you would in a job or a sport.
Classroom Rules
1. Be respectful (to me, your peers, and yourself)
2. Be prepared (with supplies and homework)
3. Give your best effort (show up on time to class every day you are not sick and work to the best of your ability). Assume everything is graded and give your best effort regardless. I will not accept a lack of effort! Failure is not an option!
Learning is not an option!
Activities: There are many different activities we will engage in throughout the week and you are expected to behave appropriately during each one. Examples include: large group (teacher-directed), partner work, group work, independent work, and science lab.
When I am talking, I expect all eyes on me and for the class to be quiet.
Daily assignments: The objective, critical questions, and homework will be written on the board daily. The first thing you will do everyday while I am taking attendance and tending to other matters will be the bellringer activity. Most bellringers will take place with your chromebook so please take your chromebook and log in first thing when you come to my classroom.
Ending class: Students are expected to remain attentive with their supplies on their desks until they are told to pack up. Even if you know the bell is about to ring, you are expected to continue to pay attention. Once the bell has rung, you will remain in your seat until I dismiss you. No one will be dismissed until all of my supplies are put away. We will always pick up any trash around our tables and leave the class in good condition for the next group of students.
Turning in homework or assignments: Homework and other assignments will be turned into the corresponding class trays in the side of the room where the sinks are.
Student responsibilities after an absence
Materials: These need to come to class with your EVERY DAY!
If you need to use the restroom:
I will only allow you to go one at a time, so don’t come up in groups ☺
You must sign out for bathroom log and sign back in when you return to the class.
Anyone abusing bathroom privileges will have bathroom use restricted
When working in pairs or groups:
Consequences for Classroom Rule Violations
Communication procedures: I will regularly use the remind app, email, and my cell phone to communicate with your parents. I I will also post assignments and announcements on our google classroom and you can always refer to my webpage to see the upcoming week's lessons (subject to change). I will also call parents when needed for academic or behavior problems and praise.
Student helpers: Each month I will assign student helpers and rotate the positions.
Rewards: Getting to sit on the lounge area is considered a privilege and this will be reserved for students who not only have completed their work but for students who have exhibited excellent behavior.
If you ever feel that the enforcing of rules and consequences is unfair, you have the right to make an appointment to discuss the situation. I will be as neutral as I can in hearing your complaints or comments.
